In Brief:

Christophe Corne, Chairman and Founder of Systancia, said: "From manufacture to disposal, computers are now at the heart of various risks to the environment and our health. For many years, computer hardware and the infrastructure that is closely linked with it, such as cooing systems, have demanded a huge amount of energy that is continually increasing to the point where it has become a major driver of global energy requirement.

Furthermore, according to recent research, it will increase dramatically, by as much as 40%, by 2020. For a long time, we have seen increased computerisation as purely positive as it has allowed us to increase productivity, improve our work/life quality and has freed us from laborious tasks. Unfortunately, further progress may be at the expense of the environment.

Fortunately, technologies do now exist that will allow us to continue to benefit from computers without incurring the environmental risk(...)."
